In early 2019, Endless released the Hack Laptop and the Hack Key, sold in the USA in Amazon. These products featured an exclusive version of Endless OS with the initial release of Hack, which we now refer to as "Hack 1", heavily focused on teaching kids to code within Hack-specific games and apps.
The advertised design here was that the product included a free trial subscription to new monthly Hack content for the first few months, but then it would require a paid subscription in order to continue receiving new content and quests.
In November 2019, Hack was reworked to take a new approach, which we call Hack 2. The subscription model was dropped; Hack became free. The Hack functionality was no longer exclusive to customers who bought the Hack products on Amazon, as Hack got added to all installations of Endless OS. Also, the content was refocused around guiding learners through professional industry-standard tools.
Hack laptops that were purchased more recently come preinstalled with Hack 2 on top of a newer edition of Endless OS.
In Hack 1, the Hack functionality was accessed from the side of the screen. In Hack 2, it is now an icon on the desktop, as shown below:
The Hack 2 Clubhouse has a fresh, new look, as shown below:
If you possess a Hack Laptop or Hack Key with the original Hack 1, it will automatically upgrade to the new Hack 2 when you go online. You can monitor this upgrade from the App Center.
A "Migration Quest" will also be auto-started and after its finished you will start using the new features from Hack. From the redesigned Clubhouse, you can learn and explore learning topics (or pathways) such as Art, Makers, Games, and more! Take charge of your learning experience and start a learning pathway whenever you want.
