Endless OS supports Suspend, a low-power state for when you're not using your computer. It still uses some energy to keep the computer partially on so you can quickly resume using it. By default, your computer will suspend when:
You can change this behavior from Settings → Power.
Resuming use of your computer when it's suspended is usually straightforward, but can depend on your exact hardware. You can wake most computers by:
Your computer should wake within a few seconds, but in certain situations with some hardware it can longer to resume.
Some hardware may have issues resuming from suspend. While relatively rare, there are some steps you can take to try to resolve it.
In some cases, manually suspending from the system menu can prevent issues. If you're seeing consistent issues with suspend and wake on your computer, try manually suspending.
Endless OS 5.1.2 fixed an issue reported on the ASUS B1400 laptop used in some Endless OS pay-as-you-go (PAYG) deployments. If you're not on Endless OS 5.1.2 or later, we recommend updating as soon as you're able.
Sometimes one method will work better for certain hardware than others. For example, if moving the mouse or tapping a key does not work, try pressing the physical ⏻ Power button.
Wireless mice and keyboards in particular may not wake a computer that's suspended since the USB ports or Bluetooth connection may also be turned off to save power.
Waking from suspend is usually fast, but sometimes it can take up to a minute to resume. This depends on the specific hardware.
Occasionally an external device might prevent the computer from resuming. You can check if your comptuer resumes successfully when disconnecting external devices like external monitors or USB hubs.
This will interrupt any long-running tasks and may cause you to lose any unsaved work.
If your computer cannot return from suspend and you've waited as long as you can, you can usually force your computer to power off by holding down a physical ⏻ Power button.
A computer will typically have a light that is on or blinking when the computer is suspended, and it will turn off or change color when powered off.
