The Endless OS Installer for Windows will ordinarily download an Endless OS installation image as part of the process of creating a dual-boot Endless OS installation or an Endless OS USB Stick.
However, it is possible to download the image files separately, or take them from another computer where the Endless OS Installer for Windows has run. The installer will then be able to proceed using these existing image files, without having to download any additional files.
Five image files must be placed in the same folder as endless-installer.exe
. The files are as follows:
.img.gz
or .img.xz
file).img.gz.asc
or .img.xz.asc
file).img.asc
file).boot.zip
file).boot.zip.asc
file)If you have used your web browser to download all of these files, they will likely already be in the same Downloads folder and you will not need to move them.
For example:
Place the relevant files in the same folder, as described above.
Run endless-installer.exe
and navigate to your preferred installation or USB option as normal.
At the point where you would be asked to select a specific version, you will see a step such as the following, which confirms that you will use the existing image file that is already downloaded:
Continue the installation process as normal.
Unfortunately, if you do not place all 5 files in the correct place, the Endless Installer for Windows does not currently give any useful feedback. If the image you want to use does not appear in the installer, check the following:
.txt
rather than .asc
. Windows hides file extensions by default, so you may wish to configure Explorer to show file extensions.
