Endless OS 6.0.3 was released on 11th September 2024.
For full details on what’s new in Endless OS 6, see the Endless OS 6 release notes.
Spanish translations for the the Pay As You Go feature have been improved.
Previously, Endless OS and applications running on it could look up the approximate physical location of the device using Mozilla Location Service, a free service that was operated by the makers of Firefox. This service was retired by Mozilla in July 2024. Endless OS 6.0.3 no longer tries to use it, and references to Mozilla Location Service in the Privacy pages of Settings and Initial Setup have been removed.
The Endless OS team is evaluating alternative services to improve geolocation in a future Endless OS release.
The mokutil
tool has been added, which can be used to inspect and modify Secure Boot state. This may be useful to work around Shim Security Policy Violation errors on dual-boot systems.
When using a standalone reformatter USB drive, unattended mode can be used to install the same Endless OS image on many identical devices with no operator interaction beyond plugging in the USB drive, booting the computer, and powering off the computer when installation is complete.
In Endless OS 6.0.3, a bug where the operator would be prompted to choose a language in unattended mode has been fixed.
The eos-write-installer
command now works more reliably when not run under sudo
.
The factory dialog, accessed by pressing Ctrl + F on the first page of Initial Setup immediately after installing, provides a button to enter Test Mode. In Test Mode, any changes made to the system – such as creating a user account – will be discarded when the system is switched off.
However, between Endless OS 6.0.0 and 6.0.2, the home directory of any user created under test mode would incorrectly be preserved when the system is restarted. This has been fixed in Endless OS 6.0.3.
