These instructions are for using Rufus on Windows. If you're unable to use Rufus or are on another platform, see Flash an Endless OS Image.
Rufus can be used to flash Endless OS images on Windows. However, in some situations Rufus may not offer the possibility of flashing your SD card. For USB disk flashing of certain Endless OS images, our Endless OS Installer for Windows offers a more user-friendly experience. For more options including where to download Endless OS images, see Flash an Endless OS Image.
The instructions below detail the procedure for flashing an Endless OS ISO to USB, but you should adapt these instructions according to your installation context (e.g. you may be using a SD card instead of USB, you may be using a different type of image file).
Download Rufus
Insert your USB device; for best results, use the fastest USB 3 drive you can find and ensure you’re inserting it into a USB 3 port, e.g. a blue-colored port or one with an “SS” or “SuperSpeed” logo
Open Rufus
Select the three options as shown in the image below, then select the drive icon of the Create bootable disk using option
In the Open window, select your downloaded image, then select Open
Verify that the information is in accordance with the example below; note that Device will display the information for your specific USB drive
Select Start
Select OK in the window to confirm erasing your USB drive
The writing process will begin
When it's finished, you'll see the message Ready; select Close or close the window
Next, you’ll boot your computer from your new Endless OS USB drive.
